Description

School Bus Driver – Trainer

12 Month Position / 8 Hours Per Day

Anticipated Start Date: February 3, 2025

 

Position Summary:  Transports students to and from school daily. Ensures that school bus drivers and monitors are properly trained and the bus routes are staffed appropriately.

 

Qualifications: An equivalent combination of education, training and experience will be considered.

  • Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
  • Requires 2 to 5 years of job-related prior experience.
  • Current CDL with Passenger and School Bus endorsement.
  • First Aid and CPR training required.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following: 

  • Transport students of all ages to and from school and extra-curricular activities in a safe and timely manner.
  • Manage student behavior and maintains discipline on the bus.
  • Conduct and logs pre-trip inspections after each run to check for vandalism, cleanliness, lost articles and sleeping children.
  • Maintain and track route data as mandated by school and state regulations.
  • Perform CPR and First Aid on the bus as needed.
  • Report mechanical problems to District mechanics.
  • Maintain the confidentiality of students’ discipline and medical records.
  • Conduct monthly safety drills with students.
  • Interpret routes and maps and anticipates and analyzes road conditions and hazards.
  • Investigate parent concerns and bus stop questions.
  • Provide training for new school bus drivers/ monitors on vehicle and safety operations.
  • Provide follow-up training for drivers/monitors after an incident.
  • Develop and document training programs and related materials for bus drivers/monitors.
  • Conduct safety meetings and group training refreshers throughout the year and at the back-to-school orientation
  • Supply schools with video from buses. Repair/monitor camera systems.
  • Aid in the District’s School Bus Safety Program.
  • Answer telephone, document messages and/or route calls when needed.
  • Distribute correspondence including forms and memos to appropriate mailboxes and parties of concern.
  • Conduct driver/monitor ride along and provide ongoing feedback for probationary and yearly evaluations.
  • Provide back-up to Dispatcher as needed
  • Other duties may be assigned.

 

COMPENSATION FOR EXPERIENCE IS CONSIDERED, 2024-2025 Classified Salary Schedules
