Description:  

Responsible for interpreting and enforcing pool rules and policies to insure the safety of all participants and swimmers and to teach Swim Classes according to Mehlville School District's posted plan. 

Qualifications:

• Must be 16 years or older
• Must be a strong swimmer
• Preferred experience with lifeguarding
• Must work well with a broad spectrum of people with a range of swimming skills
• American Red Cross Lifeguard Training Certification preferred
• American Red Cross First Aid Certification preferred
• American Red Cross CPR for the Professional Rescuer preferred

Essential Job Functions

• Interpret and enforce pool rules and policies to ensure the safety of all participants and swimmers, and foster a friendly environment for all users
• Prevent accidents and injuries through knowledge of and recognition of potentially dangerous situations
• Keep pool clean and in good order
• Report to work on time and maintain a professional appearance and attitude when at work.
• Maintain swimming and life guarding skills and certifications
• Ensure that all lifesaving equipment is present and operational for all water activities.
• Attend all required staff meetings and training.
• Teach Swim classes according to Mehlville School District's posted plan. 
• Actively participate with the students in the class.
• Communicate regularly with each participant and the parents. 
• Demonstrate swimming skills taught. 
• Prevent accidents and injuries through oversight of children in your care.
• Recognize and avoid dangerous situations. 
• Test and evaluate swimmers' abilities
• Performs other related duties as required.
